Genealogical index to "Chronicles Of Lincluden", by William McDowall; published
Edinburgh, Adam & Charles Black, 1886.
This Index was compiled as no adequate name index exists in the original book - a history of Lincluden Abbey and its College, by Dumfries, Galloway, Scotland.
Pattern utilised in the index is: surname, forename, descriptor[sir/lord/earl
of/vicar of], name of farm or estate - page nos. Where a person is a witness/prebendar,
etc., separate entries are made, in case different persons are meant. You may
thus find the same person in various guises. Where the context clearly indicates
the same person, entries have been combined into one.
Where a name is found in a footnote, the letter "n"[note] is added
to the page number.
The book and thus index refers to people from around 1138 onwards, and includes
local landowners as recent as the time of the original publication.
This index is copyright Gordon Johnson, 2004, but permission is granted to
print it out for use with your own copy of the book, with acknowledgement of
me as compiler.
