Material in this section must be concerned with Scottish genealogy; either sources, repositories, families, examples and experiences. The main target is material that will assist other researchers with Scottish connections.

Here's a starter:

Why do you sometimes have difficulty in finding the same index entry in Scotlandspeople that you found on Familysearch?

This cropped up in one of the newsgroups, and the answer was very straightforward. The search engine on familysearch allows for variations in spelling, but the search engine on scotlandspeople is very picky and will only return items that have the exact spelling you asked for. Often the original OPR has a spelling variation, such as name ending either -ie or -y , or Johnstone with or without the T or without the E. Your solution is to use the wildcard option in searching scotlandspeople, using Leck plus asterisk for Lecky or Leckie, and Johns plus asterisk for the various Johnson spellings. That should capture all the possible entries. (of course it won't find Lekky, Laiky, or Lecque, but these are much rarer variants; and Lockie and Luckie are different names.).
